We hear the words ‘somatic’ and ‘embodiment’ a lot on social media these days. The word ‘somatic’ has its origins in Greek language and simply means body. The familiarity of these terms reflects the rapid growth in knowledge about trauma and its relationship to the nervous system. It has also changed the understanding of mental health and how best to cultivate emotional wellbeing.
We now know that trauma is nervous system dysregulation and that it lives in the body. To resolve it, we need to go into the body and work at the somatic level. Addressing issues only at the mind level doesn’t go deep enough. It doesn’t get to the root cause. Healing is about reconnecting with bodily sensations, impulses, and emotions and learning to feel them in an embodied way.
I draw on PhD level studies in psychology, more than fifteen years working in the mental health field, and lifelong journey of healing complex post traumatic stress disorder to support you to recover from mental and emotional distress. Sharing the information and practices that have worked for me, I teach you ways to navigate pain and distress that bring ease, freedom, vitality, fulfilling relationships, and access to your potential.
